Our featured cruise this week is a great DEAL on a 7-night Boston round-trip on the Carnival Glory, June 3, 2012. This is a cruise that most travelers think about for Fall, but we’re offering an early June itinerary for several reasons:

1- Early summer fares are lower than fall “leaf-peeping” cruises.
2- It will be a bit warmer!
3- If you have kids, you can take them without having them miss school, AND, Carnival is a great cruise line for families.
4- The port cities will probably be less crowded, as summer crowds are just starting to build.

Scenery, History and “CHOWDAH”!

A Canada/New England cruise is not what usually comes to mind when parents are working on their summer vacation plans, but really, should a child’s education just stop when school is out?

Think of the history you can talk about while you walk the Freedom Trail in Boston, passing Paul Revere’s house, Bunker Hill, and the Old North Church. (After all that walking, you’ll need a hearty bowl of chowder!)

After leaving Boston, your first stop will be Portland, Maine. In 2003, the National Historic Trust honored Portland by naming it one of its Dozen Distinctive Destinations. There’s plenty of things to see and do in Portland.

At St. John, NB, learn about the phenomenon of the Reversing Falls, caused by the tremendous rise and fall of the tides of the Bay of Fundy, which are the highest in the world. Adults AND kids will be fascinated by this amazing sight!

Next stop is Halifax, a perfect place for those who are looking for a more adventurous day of exploring. Try sea-kayaking, deep-sea fishing, rock-climbing, windsurfing or canoeing, or go for a coastal hike to view the historic lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove.

Then you’re on to Sydney, Nova Scotia, with museums, historic churches, and a rich WWII history…among the many ways to spend your day there.

All of these possibilities, AND the beautiful coastline along the way…what a great way to start the summer!
